Why this course?
Public Authorities are required by law to have persons designated in the roles of Handler and Controller under Section 29 (5) RIPA 2000. Our RIPA CHIS training will ensure staff can obtain direct and manage CHIS safely and apply for appropriate authorisations under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act if using Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS). It is critical staff undertaking the role of the Handlers or Controllers have the appropriate knowledge, understanding and training to ensure RIPA and Investigatory Powers Commissioners Office (IPCO) compliance

Aim
This Covert Source Management course will provide an understanding of the statutory requirements of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 and Codes of Practice for those undertaking the statutory roles of CHIS Handler or Controller.
This practical, structured RIPA CHIS Training training course gives you a comprehensive understanding of the legal regime to manage CHIS under RIPA. You’ll learn how to manage, direct and risk assess deployments of CHIS
Who should attend
This course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and understanding and is tailored for those undertaking the roles of CHIS Handlers or Controllers for their organisation as governed by Section 29 5 (a) (b) of RIPA 2000. This course will provide RIPA CHIS Controller or Handler certification.
